Remote SIM does not work as expected

SIM BANK Location: Shanghai, China
Remote SIM Location: Goteborg, Sweden

The dial up by using remote sim failed, we’ve tried 3 different devices and all failed.

We’ve checked the latency between remote SIM equipment and SIM bank, and it reachs 1 second. Not sure if the latency is too big for the remote SIM.

The logs:

Latency:
root@raspberrypi:/home/pi# ping 10.8.0.110PING 10.8.0.110(10.8.0.110)56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 10.8.0.110:icmp_seg=1 tt1=64 time=753 ms
64 bytesfrom 10.8.0.110:icmp_seq=2 tt]=64 time=912mS.
64 bytes:from 10.8.0.110:icmp_seg=3 tt]=64 time=713 ms
64 bytes from 10.8.0.110:icmp_seg=4 tt1=64 time=733 ms
64 bytesfrom 10.8.0.110:icmp seg=5 tt1=64 time=593 ms

BTW, we’ve tried the same setup in China, and all works fine,

SIM Bank Location: Shanghai, China
Remsim equipment Location: Shenzhen, China

The latency is arround 200ms.

Hi @hartxu1

In general, issue should be reported to the issue tracker of the respective project (here: osmo-remsim) on https://projects.osmocom.org/ - please make sure to attach all the relevant log files of client + bankd and if possible also a pcap file containing the RSPRO communication.

I cannot comment on the specific scenario, but in general the only known relevant timeout from the 3GPP side is the timeout how long the network waits for the response to an authentication command. This is a very high-level timer and it runs within the MSC/SGSN (2G/3G) or the MME (4G). It includes the transit time within the operator network, the readio network in the UE and the SIM. The default/recommended value is - as far as I remember - 4 seconds. Operators can of couser adjust it differently.

In any case, a detailed analysis should be done, and that should happen in an issue on osmocom.org.

Thanks for the update!

I will followup it in https://projects.osmocom.org/
