Classic Computing 2025

This thread is for coordination related to any exhibit and/or activties at Classic Computing 2025 held in Hof (Northern end of Bavaria, Germany) from September 11 through 14th, 2025.

Note that independent of us there’s already a thread discussing some kind of retronetworking activities at CC2025: Retro-Netzwerk auf der CC? - Classic Computing 2025 - VzEkC e. V. - so it might be that with the long lead time we actually might get a somewhat larger setup with more participants this time.

Hof certainly would be within a distance from home where I might not need to have a hotel room.

I could bring some BTX equipment.

The registration [for exhibitors] has meanwhile opened. Is there anyone willing to help with hosting/operating a retronetworking setup there?

I’m happy to bring related equipment and host/operate it, but I think we’d need [at least] one additional volunteer who could be there ideally from friday afternoon through sunday afternoon. Build-up is already on thursday, so that would of course be even better, but I can manage that by myself, as needed.

It’s extremely likely I’ll be there during the whole time.

So what would one have to do?

well, basically sit around and help people with the exhibits and/or explain about it. So far we usually had a few x86 laptops with modems + ISDN-TA, 2 ISDN video telephones.

It of course makes sense to exhibit some different things this time, but fundamentally it will be something operating over a PBX with POTS and ISDN BRI ports.

  • Maybe bring some fax machines this time, like we had at 38C3?
  • In terms of computers for BBS dialup:We could move a bit away from too many x86 machines and instead add an iBook and/or a PowerBook (I have some).
  • You could bring some BTX terminals.
  • we could bring various routers supporting PSTN + analog BRI? Not much to demo with them, though. but might be a change?
  • we could also focus entirely on modems and bring a huge collection of different modems?

Any other ideas?

The overall schedule is, usually:

  • thursday afternoon: build-up of exhibits possible
  • friday: only exhibitors, VzEkC members and possibly some guided tours of students
  • sat/sun: open to the general public

That sounds good, I think I could bring a BTX-Terminal with modem with me and it’s a good excuse to get an ISDN video phone myself.

I have multiple ISDN-Videophones, so for demo purposes you don’t need to procure any additional ones for yourself. So no pressure.
