add an international translation to Osmocom
What exactly are you referring to here? And international translation
- to which language[s] exactly
- performed by whom (are you volunteering?)
- of what exactly? The wiki pages of a specific osmocom project? The console/VTY of a specific program? The user manuals?
In general I’m relatively pessimistic about translations. If there’s a group of people who really want to commit to spend a lot of time on it and we can find a good technical solution for what they want to do - fine. But in all other cases, it’s not going to happen.
yes i volunteer translating into russian using online translator deepl i want to help translate everything about osmocom into russian.
I think this doesn’t make sense unless you
- have a plan to involve somebody who already knows and understands the respective osmocom software, and who can validate / fix the problems in the machine translated translation
- come up with a comprehensive plan for how to keep that translation always up-to-date
In my opinion, this is not feasible unless there was a considerably large team with resources to do that and to maintain it.
Also “everything about osmocom” is way too generic. If one starts such a task, it should be carefully weighed which parts should be translated. Who are the users? For which programs specifically? Having a scope of “everything” but not the resources to continously mantaint that is bound for failure.
